Madison, Wisconsin (June 11, 2008)
Former Mayor Paul Soglin, School Board Member Marjorie Passman, Madison Alder Michael Schumacher, County Supervisor Dorothy Wheeler, and former School Board Member Carol Carstensen endorsed Justin Sargent for State Assembly this week.
One week after leaving his position as Chief of Staff for State Senator Judy Robson to campaign full time for State Assembly, Justin Sargent received the endorsements of several local leaders in his bid to replace retiring Representative Dave Travis in the 81st Assembly District.
Former school board member and education advocate, Carol Carstensen, stated, “Justin will make a principled legislator who understands the challenges facing our educational system and children. I encourage anyone who shares our concern about educational quality to join me in supporting Justin Sargent for State Assembly".”
Marjorie Passman, current school board member, agreed, saying, “Justin Sargent is the candidate that, when elected, will work to fix state education funding, so that local school boards are not forced to close neighborhood schools and cut opportunities for our children.”
Paul Soglin, former Madison Mayor and progressive commentator endorsed Sargent stating, “Justin has solid experience on a host of important issues including health care reform, education, tax fairness, the environment, and individual rights. Justin has the ethical integrity, passion, and know-how to be a strong voice for the people of the 81st Assembly district.”
Madison Alder Michael Schumacher stated, “This election is important, we need results. That’s why I’m supporting Justin for the 81st Assembly District seat. Justin is a pragmatic, thoughtful leader who works well with people of different views. He will listen to his constituents and advance their interests.”
“Justin Sargent best represents our values, concerns, and hopes. He understands the issues and challenges facing our communities and state. He has the experience to get things done,” Stated County Board Supervisor Dorothy Wheeler, who represents a large portion of Madison’s North Side.
Accepting the endorsements, Justin said, “I’m honored to have the support of these respected community leaders. As your Assembly Representative, I will continue my efforts to make health care affordable and accessible to all Wisconsin residents; I will support investing in educational opportunities for our children and life long learning opportunities for all; and I will fight for clean, safe water, breathable air, and the security of a healthy environment. Together we can again make Wisconsin a State of opportunity.”
Justin Sargent is running to replace retiring Representative David Travis in the 81st District that includes portions of Madison’s North and East sides, Waunakee, Westport, Cross Plains, Black Earth, and Mazomanie. He and his wife, Melissa, live on the north side of Madison where their school-aged children attend public schools.
