Melissa, the boys, and I attended Madison's Labor Day festivities this past weekend. It was like a reunion! Melissa and I were both happily surprised by how many of our neighbors and friends attended. Some we had not even realized were union members. All were warmly receptive and encouraging. The event was a solid reminder of the work that many have done to fight for a living wage and strong economy.
This week also included the first day of school for Madison schools. Melissa and I met students, parents, and teachers at Gompers, Elementary School. As parents we again ushered our children into a new school year. As part of the PTO we provided coffee and tissues for the parents, during what an be a stressful transition, especially for families experiencing it for the first time. We also dropped off bagel treats as a thank you to the teachers from the PTO. It was a great opportunity to help our schools a bit and to meet some parents new to our school. A topic of concern voiced by many parents is the state of education in Wisconsin.
