Dear Friends,
Another robust week of activities!
Gathering Waters Conservancy had a lovely awards banquet and silent auction. While I did not win any of the auction items, I did have a great time meeting with people who understand that partnerships in preservation are an effective system that works to save environmentally sensitive areas. I also appreciate the sentiment that thoughtful growth is vital to protecting our health and environmental quality. It goes hand in hand with promoting a strong economy. Gathering Waters, like a number of other such groups are very active statewide to secure opportunities for continued outdoor recreation options.
I was also honored at the InBusiness reception for those selected for as 40 under 40 Emerging Leaders. I appreciate the magazine's interest in reaching out beyond the traditional business types to recognize a Democratic activist like myself. I talked to a number of people about the progressive vision of partnering with business to ensure we offer opportunity and economic security in our communities.
I spent some time with former Ambassador (to Norway) Tom Loftus and Representatives Dave Travis, Mike Sheridan, Tom Nelson, and Kim Hixson late last week. It was an opportunity to vent some frustration about the Republican’s forced budget stalemate and discuss ways to build a Democratic majority so that we can again work to provide opportunity, and security to Wisconsin residents.
Monday the 24th, I attended the Dane County Democrats luncheon, they featured two Dane County Supervisors who discussed a comprehensive audit of our justice system. The audit revealed a number of ideas to improve efficiency and save money, while offering swifter justice. In the evening I enjoyed a presentation to members of the Friends of Cherokee Marsh and was able to speak with the group afterwards. They had some great thoughts on preserving the marsh as well as a number of other important conservation issues.
