Fall Weather has found us! Update for the week of September 17th:
This was a week of celebration. Our youngest son, Keanan, turned 2 years old on Wednesday and all week long we enjoyed small events that kept a smile on his face and a bounce in his step. On his actual birthday, Wednesday, the 12th, he allowed me to go and say a few words at the Dane County Democrats meeting. When I addressed the meeting, I spoke to the need for strengthening the educational opportunities available for our children; providing Wisconsin residents with healthcare security and choices; and about the need to safeguard our waters and environment so that we can safely swim in the waters and eat the fish our children catch. I stayed for the entire meeting and enjoyed talking to many old friends afterwards. Special thanks to Representative Kim Hixson, D-Whitewater. He shared with the group, some of my volunteer efforts that helped him win his race.
The same night that the Dane County Democrats met, I also attended a fundraiser for Fair Wisconsin, an excellent advocacy group fighting to bring more opportunity, justice and equality to Wisconsin. It was a great chance to strengthen friendships with kindred spirits that share and champion these important values.
The weekend held some festivals that we managed to attend including watching some amazing dancing at the Mexican Independence Day celebration at Warner Park. I also had the opportunity to earn some Community Timebank dollars by setting up the Timebank booth at the Northside Farmers market and staffing it for a spell. The weather was perfectly crisp and the produce excellent. Following this fun community activism, I attended an issues training session. I was fortunate to be invited to this excellent seminar where potential candidates and candidates learn more about the issues of the day.
