Dear Friends,
Week in Brief:
This past week’s activities included two visits with service groups in Cross Plains, attending the Cross Plains Beer Parade and a library fundraiser, observing at the 2nd congressional Democratic Party delegate selection caucus, and of course door to door voter contact.
Special note: If you have not seen the latest issue of Brava magazine, I encourage you to check it out. Melissa is featured as one of the mothers, who manage hectic schedules. Melissa balances family needs, running a business, an of course helping out on the campaign trail!
The Details:
I spent most of my weekend in Cross Plains with my family, meeting voters and visitors alike while attending “Trout Days,” a community event marking the start of trout fishing season. It’s a great way to highlight the rich environmental quality of area trout streams. Although the community of Cross Plains might hook visitors with the trout fishing contest, the Village also offers garage sales, a Lions brat fry, and a parade. The parade celebrated 75 years since the original Beer Parade marked the end of prohibition.
While in Cross Plains we had the opportunity to support the Public Library fundraiser. I believe we must offer educational opportunities for children, our families and communities, and provide resources that will foster lifelong learning. A good community library is a vital resource. Cross Plains has invested in such a library; I encourage you to visit this civic gem, a center of community activity and learning.
In other news, the Democratic Party held its 2nd congressional delegate selection on Sunday to determine who will represent each of the presidential candidates at the national convention. I’m convinced that we have two of the best presidential candidates our party has seen in years. The enthusiasm during the selection process was inspiring.
Fundraisers help out with the expenses of a campaign, and folks are welcome to join me at the following events, or talk to me about hosting one of your "Sargent for Assembly" fundraisers.
May 18th – Northside Supporters Jeanette Paulson, Dayna Dalton, and Gayle Ihlenfeld are planning an event for our campaign the afternoon of May 18th. Very kid friendly event!
June 3rd – Susan Steingass, Mary Berryman-Agard and others will be hosting a fundraiser for me at Café Montmartre from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. I’m honored by the support of these two remarkable women and will be forever impressed with their tenacity at making this event succeed despite some tremendous obstacles.
June 8th – Conservation leaders and outdoor enthusiasts from the 81st Assembly District and across Wisconsin will be hosting a fundraising event for me at Rex’s Innkeeper in Waunakee.
