Dear Friends,

Thank you to those of you who have worked so hard to help move our campaign along and who answered the call to help us gather nomination signatures and last minute donations before the last filing deadline.

The details:

We gathered over 1,300 nomination signatures by going door to door across the district. Through torrential rain, clouds of mosquitoes, and with the heat index in the danger zone. Special thanks to those who kept me out there! I'm extremely encouraged by your support and by the support I've received at the thousands of doors I've knocked on.

This race looks to be even more expensive than initially hoped, so despite a flurry of donations prior to the last reporting deadline, our fundraising efforts continue. This weekend we have our next event. Mary and Michael Schumacher are hosting an ice cream social at their home this Sunday. You’re invited! It’s an old fashioned meet and greet and fundraiser. Their home is located at 517 Nova Way on Madison’s Northside. The event will run from 2-4 pm.

Your support has meant a great deal to me to me personally and as I hear every story, unique yet sharing common themes, I’m reminded why I’m running. It’s about providing real leadership for positive change – I walk up to each door because I know that far too many are struggling to make ends meet. In addition, most are facing unbearable increases in health care costs and even when they mange to meet the double digit increases, they still have to wonder when they might lose their coverage completely. I’m also running because of the families like mine that worry whether their children will have the educational opportunities needed to succeed. There are many issues of course, I’ve tried addressing my positions on some of them on my website. Please check them out at www.sargentforassembly.org.

Also new on the website are a couple of press releases, including an announcement of support from several state leaders. State Senators Judy Robson and Kathleen Vinehout, and State Representatives Michael Sheridan, Kim Hixson and Chuck Benedict have endorsed me and I am grateful for their support.

Thank you again!

On the amusing (wild!) side of the campaign:

Given the hundreds of doors that I’m doing each week, I have been expecting to meet at least one unhappy, angry dog. But events on the trail took an interesting turn this week. I encountered a large snake that looked like a doorstep ornament until it spooked right toward me; I visited a house with more cats than you would imagine; I met a fox on a long wooded driveway; and my two older children have now managed to count a dozen or so nests in front door planters, all with chicks in them. Finally, I have been bitten by more mosquitoes than anyone should have to endure. Fortunately on the days of the worst mosquitoes I have met wonderful people who volunteered to spray me down with repellent. I have gratefully accepted!

Fundraising:

Don’t forget, you’re invited to join us for some ice cream and conversation at the Schumacher’s home, 517 Nova Way, this Sunday, July 13th, from 2-4 pm.

If you have not done so recently, please take just a few seconds to click the link below to make a secure online donation. $250, $130, $75, or whatever you are comfortable with, to make sure that my grassroots efforts are backed up by sufficient funds to win this important race.

Donate to Sargent for Assembly

Good old-fashioned checks in the mail are also great! Checks can be written to Justin Sargent for Assembly and mailed to 1638 Mayfield Lane, Madison WI 53704.

I encourage you to think of friends or family that might want to join you in supporting me. Your grassroots fundraising can help to build a winning campaign.
