Week of April 14th, 2008

Dear Friends,

Come and join us on April 24th for cake and fun – We are planning a family fun gathering at the Northside Benvenutos Restaurant/Bar, located in the Northgate shopping center, 1849 Northport Dr. We will have birthday cake from 5:30 to 7:00 PM.

Melissa, the children, and I enjoy going to community events and we went to several such outings this week, attending a community spaghetti dinner in Waunakee, a pancake breakfast in Black Earth, and a Madison Northside neighborhood plan open house. Our older boys also joined me in going door-to-door. I attended the Spring Conservation Congress, a Clean Wisconsin discussion on climate change and our environment, a Democratic Party unity event, and a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood.

I was reminded yet again of the deep roots Melissa and I have in Dane County when we attended the Northside neighborhood plan open house. Between us, we knew almost everyone in the room. There are some exciting plans being discussed for Madison’s Northside.

I joined Dane County conservationists and environmentalists at the Annual Conservation Congress Spring hearing. Jane Meyer, a great conservationist, was unanimously elected to another 3 year term. (I’m proud to list Jane among my supporters.) This week I also took the opportunity to attend a presentation and discussion on the east side of Madison led by Keith Reopelle of Clean Wisconsin. Clean Wisconsin is a strong advocate for curbing global climate change and for protecting our environment for future generations.

Quote of the week: “Dad, can we do doors today?” said the first. “Not CAN we, but WHEN are we doing doors today?” asked the second. - My two young campaign helpers who are always eager to get their dad outside knocking on doors.
